Early Years Support

Early Learning and lower primary pupils
We have a day nursery and lower primary school, which provides a safe learning environment for children between the ages of 3 and 8. Our children come from desperate homes in the local area, many caring for their younger siblings, while parents or guardians are working. We enrol up to 80 children, some are orphans or have single parents, and most are affected by HIV/AIDS. As well as friendly and inclusive learning (following the Kenyan curriculum with a few different dances and songs) the children receive a daily hot meal. For many parents and guardians this is a significant incentive for attendance, often being the only secure meal of the day.

“Since 2004 when I first found Pepo La Tumaini in Kenya, to this day, I am amazed by the sheer force for good this small organisation has become. First, it was only Khadja and her one-woman campaign to save the children whose parents were dying from HIV-AIDS. Now it’s grown into a community powerhouse that deserves all our support. Tumaini stands between these children and the street.”
